There are many different pathways to finance for projects with social benefits.

Some examples are:

  • Grant Funding/Trusts/Foundations:  e.g., Community Foundation for Merseyside, The Lottery Community Fund
  • Sector funding:  e.g., Community Investment Fund – Housing Associations
  • Ticketed Events: e.g., Festivals, Music concerts,  Performances
  • Commissioners: e.g., Aim Higher for Disabled Children
  • Private business: Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Tenders: e.g., The Chest – Local Authorities Procurement Portal
  • Individuals – Self Financing, Personalised Budgets, Benefactors/Philanthropists

When approaching funders for finance – Key things to consider:

  • Be realistic
  • Plan well in advance
  • Think laterally and creatively – what? Why? Who?
  • Competition is stiff – so stand out!
  • Stay focused on your aims
  • Know your costs
  • Timeframe/milestones
  • Communications
  • Legal status and governance, inc partnerships, collaboration and co-production
